I love spring!!
After a long cold winter in Maine where we deal with so much cold and snow, when I start seeing mud, smelling skunks and having some nice warm (anything above 40 qualifies as warm in the spring up here!!) weather I get very excited.
I find I have a lot of energy when the sun starts shining warmly through my windows. Of course what that also means is I start seeing very clearly how depressed the winter has made me. My house is a MESS!! There’s dust, sand and just piles of stuff everywhere … piles of papers that I didn’t have the energy to organize. Boxes from the many times I had to clean out my car and just didn’t have the energy to go through. You see I have seasonal depression and winter is not my friend … however Spring is my savior … ok not savior like God or Jesus … lol but it does get me going in a positive direction every year!
So where do you begin when you are so far behind to get caught up?
First I open all the curtains and let the sunshine in! Not only do I have seasonal depression but my full time job is as an Emergency Dispatcher and I work night shift so I also have the joy of being Vitamin D deficient!! wahoo!! People only call 911 on their worst day so I also get to deal with everyone’s worst day … over and over … every day!! That can really wear on a soul and it’s no wonder I get depressed!! Opening the curtains and letting in the sun on my days off recharges me!! Then I look to see what I can do quickly to make the biggest impact on my mess. Usually it is just going around picking up trash and dishes and laundry. I know most of you probably do this on a daily basis but someone with seasonal depression will completely understand why I can’t. I’m not saying I haven’t done it all winter … that would just be gross :p … but I don’t do it as often as I should because some days I honestly just can’t get out of my own way.
Building Butterflies is always a judgement free zone and I am being real here so no judging!! lol
Once I have done that I’m usually loving the progress and find it much easier to continue so I simply pick a room and pick a place to start and go around the room tyding and dusting. Once that is done I vacuum and sit in the room enjoying the clean… then i move onto the next one … usually by this point I am loving the clean feeling and cannot stop for hours and hours …
Now I have never done this but I plan to this time but when I am done cleaning I plan to open the windows and do some smudging with sage!! I lived in a house where the owner was of American Indian descent and she smudged before I rented the house. It really does clear the air and make the house feel inviting. “Mystics say the Native American practice of smudging, or purifying a room with the smoke of sacred herbs, can help clear negative energy from a space.
